Your first reformer Pilates class: what to check before booking
Getting started is easier when you know which class suits you and what your booking includes. Use this practical checklist to choose a studio and prepare for your first visit.
Choose a class that welcomes first-time visitors.
A reformer is a Pilates apparatus with a moving carriage and springs. Mat experience can differ from experience on the equipment, so tell the studio this will be your first reformer class when you book.
Look for a beginner or introductory class description. Names such as Foundations, Beginner or All levels do not, by themselves, establish the entry requirements. Ask whether you can start in a group or need a separate introduction.
Check the full cost of your first visit.
A single-class price and a per-class package rate are different offers. If you want to try a studio first, ask about a single visit and its expiry date.
Before paying, check for separate introduction, registration or equipment charges. Find out whether buying a pass also reserves your class or whether you need to select a time separately. On Pilates Places, read the note beside the price and open the official price list.
Confirm your class and cancellation terms.
Choose a specific date and time, then check your booking confirmation. If you are only in town for a few days, ask the studio to confirm you can attend that class during your trip.
Check the cancellation deadline and what happens if you arrive late or miss the class. If you need an English-speaking class, ask about the language of that specific session. An English website does not necessarily mean classes are taught in English.
Get ready to arrive.
Ask what to bring: whether grip socks are required, whether equipment is included and how early to arrive. Check the exact entrance, access and parking or public transport options.
On arrival, tell the instructor it is your first reformer class and ask them to explain the equipment. This guide helps with choosing and booking; follow your instructor’s directions for the actual class.
